CSE Cloud - Cloud Computing and Big Data Lab

Cloud Computing and Big Data Laboratory is a Dell supported research and development laboratory in Computer Science and Engineering Department. Dell provided the necessary hardware to setup the lab; where six Dell PowerEdge servers together form the testbed with 128 computing cores. This laboratory serves the undergraduate students by training them in the basic cloud services, and enables the advanced level users to study, assess and contribute towards some emerging cloud services, such as Hadoop-as-a-Service, Cloud-based Analytics-as-a-Service, HPC-as-a-Service, Algorithm-as-a-Service.

The Big Data and Cloud computing environment for Big Data Analysis and High Performance Computing has the following setup:

  • 2 Dell R730 servers with Intel Xeon E5-2630 v3 2.4 GHz processors with 4 x 16GB RAM and 32 cores each.
  • 4 Dell R430 servers with Intel Xeon E5-2630 v3 2.4 GHz processors, with 2 x 16GB RAM and 16 cores each.
  • N4032 Networking Switch
  • CentOS 6.0 is the operating system installed on all 6 servers.
  • To make the system capable to handle the volume and variety of data, CDH5 - the Cloudera distribution for Apache Hadoop and related open source stack is setup.
