RESEARCH IN THE DNA OF THE UNIVERSITY

Strong emphasis on interdisciplinary research that cuts across academic programs has allowed the University to break disciplinary silos and institute a broad-based pedagogical structure. The synergy between teaching and research is the stronghold, rooted in the belief and efforts towards the creation of knowledge (by researching) and not just disseminating it (by teaching). The University’s mission is to be at the forefront of the creation of new knowledge and new forms of creative expressions through setting the core research agenda of the programs ranging from basic and fundamental studies to applied and creative research.

One of the pioneering and flagship programs at Shiv Nadar University is the Opportunities for Undergraduate Research (OUR) that has enabled undergraduate students to conduct original research with faculty. The interdisciplinary curriculum and research - as an integral part of the pedagogy at the University inspires students with opportunities for hands-on-experience in conducting original research with faculty outside the regular curriculum.

Gitanjali Kolanad, Professor, Department of Art Design and Performing Arts (SoHSS), is awarded the Writer-in-Residence under the 2016 Singapore Creative Writing Residency Programme jointly organised by the Arts House and the National University of Singapore (NUS).

Field, Market and Industrial Corridor
Dr. Mekhala Krishnamurthy, Associate Professor, Department of Sociology, has been engaged in long-term anthropological fieldwork within India's complex agricultural mandis and commodity markets. At the University, she takes the classroom to the field and is developing a new research project exploring the rapidly changing agarian landscape and land economy in and around Dadri, where the University is located.

Dr. Tulika Chandra, Dean of Student Welfare, was selected to attend a program at the University of Nebraska, Omaha. The program focused on ‘Women in University Administration’ from South and Central Asia, and was sponsored by the U.S. State Department.

High Performance Computing Cluster

Shiv Nadar University is the first private University and only the fifth research institution in the country with ‘Magus’ – a High Performance Computing (HPC) cluster, designed to facilitate the computing needs of research projects and complex computing simulations undertaken by various schools of the University. The HPC cluster has 30 TeraFlops of Theoretical Peak Performance from a total of 62 Computer Nodes.
